GALLERY 621 of Benicia California, presents "INSIDE-OUT", a solo exhibition of Plein Air and Studio Work by Nikki Basch-Davis. Nikki has been painting since the early 70's. Originally embodying the California Landscape Style, she later joined with Jerrold Turner, Pam Glover and William Rushton forming the "Outsiders", which has been showing as a group for thirteen years, exhibiting in Galleries and Museums of the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Bruce Gennaro wrote that Nikki Basch-Davis "… doesn't merely capture a scene or a moment in time; she captures the feeling of it". Hell, Nikki reaches out and rips off what she sees, slams it down on her board and with an amazing strength of will physically dominates the work at hand by scratching and scrabbling around in layers and layers of viscous oil paint, bursting and oozing into a wonderfully original vision! And if you look where Nikki was looking, it seems there is gone missing another brick in the wall. Nikki is the eternal optimist.
For Nikki Basch-Davis, the Left Bank/Right Bank is not about Paris. Nikki, Latvian born, raised on a Kibbutz, a sargent of the Israeli Army and educated in Europe, somehow found her way to this tiny coastal town of Benicia where she has lived since early 2000. As a painter, Nikki is tough but in her own inimical way she will open the door to let you in, and welcome you knowing that she will knock your socks off!
