Don Giovanni is irresistible: he knows the unique value of each woman and celebrates her as no one else can. But respect, reliability, remorse and revenge remain for everyone else to resolve. Mozart and Da Ponte’s “playfully dramatic” opera is as current as it is classic. Sung in Donald Pippin’s English translation with chamber orchestra, it is easy to follow the fun and frustration of the women and men as they deal with each other, and to hear some of the best music ever composed.
