Internationally recognized artist Dennis Sheil will be exhibiting his works, Beyond the Brush, through October 31 at Downtown Benicia’s Milinda Perry Gallery. After growing up in a small town in Iowa, then 20 years in the Air Force, Sheil now lives in Fairfield, California. The long-time art collector says the influence of art in his daily life has fueled his passion for painting. “My art is a reflection of the abstract life I lead; often times calming and peaceful, other times frenzied and chaotic,” he says.
Sheil works as a project manager for an engineering firm. “It is incredibly liberating to be able to dump the data, let loose, and let the paint flow. Abstract and non-representational painting gives me an opportunity to let go of the finite, structured details I deal with daily. When I pick up a brush or pallet knife to start a new piece, I often have no specific idea or concept in mind—I literally and figuratively start with a blank canvas and see where my mind takes me. My mood, the music I am listening to, and countless other factors in my life ultimately influence the colors, intensity, and complexity of the piece.”
