On Tahoe’s North Shore, locals and visitors rave about their favorite breakfast hangout. In Truckee, it’s Coffee And or Jax Diner. In Tahoe City, Rosie’s and Firesign Café are always packed on weekends. And in Incline Village, it’s all about Wildflower Café. I almost always seek out the healthiest item on the menu, and all of the above offer egg-white omelets. But if you’ve worked up big hunger on a brisk, early morning hike, there’s no beating the occasional biscuits and gravy fat-fest to replenish serious calorie-burn.
At Wildflower, a small eatery on Highway 28, locals have their own coffee mug hanging from a rack over the bar and the owner is always available for a friendly chat. Without question, Wildflower offers – hands down – the best biscuits and gravy on the Lake. The gravy is thick and rich with delicious homemade flavor and plenty of sausage. The biscuits are flaky and tender. And the combination leaves you with an ear-to-ear grin of satisfaction.
Next time you find yourself famished in the morning, stop in at Wildflower and get your biscuits and gravy on. And if it makes you feel better, get a half-order with some fruit on the side!
