Galileo Galilei’s quote, “Wine is sunlight held together by water,” is fitting for the third annual wine tasting event hosted by Soroptimist International of Benicia. Get ready to come taste the grapes infused with sunshine as opportunity awaits at SIP with Soroptimist, November 10, 7-10pm at the Clock Tower.

The Clock Tower will be transformed into a casually elegant harvest setting, and the evening of wine tasting and delectable food will include entertainment by Nicky DePaola. Known as "Nicky D," a vocalist, entertainer and recording artist, his class act is best described as Sinatra meets Motown, with a mix of soulful R&B. You won't want to miss this!

Prominent wineries from Napa and Sonoma counties will supply the wine, while plenty of food and desserts will be available. Want more? There will be a silent auction and raffle gift baskets, and surprises are in store as well. One of the highlights of the evening will be the $1,000 Holiday Cash drawing. Enter to win with purchase of raffle tickets at $10 each.

Why Sip with Soroptimist? This is a party with a purpose. Soroptimist International 's mission, to improve the lives of women and girls, is notably evident in the signature project of the Benicia club. Last year, in partnership with SafeQuest Solano, Soroptimist of Benicia opened a Safe House, for those who experience the horrific realities of domestic violence or human trafficking.

The House of Hope has been a goal of the club for several years. With ongoing rent and needed furnishings and supplies, the club's fundraising efforts will help to keep it open. Sip with Soroptimist is the club's major fundraiser, with proceeds going to support not only the safe house, but a wide range of local projects. These include scholarships for high school students: Dream It, Be It career day for girls, Live Your Dream education award for women heads of household, and support for the Family Resource Center. Soroptimist also stocks the SCOOP closet and provides new backpacks for back to school.

Tickets are available at Eventbrite. The advance ticket price is $40 each or two for $75. At the door, the ticket price will be $50. Designated drivers pay only $10 and receive bottled water and snacks.  For further information call Penny at 925.890.5510.
