AlertBenicia Provides Critical Citywide Notifications
With recent storm and refinery events, the City of Benicia has been utilizing its emergency notification system, AlertBenicia, to disseminate critical information. The system is used to communicate with residents, businesses, staff, and emergency personnel during emergencies and other critical events.
A few key points and reminders about the system:
- Individuals self-register at AlertBenicia.org
- Register multiple locations (home, work, school). In the event of an isolated incident with targeted messages (i.e. gas leak in a neighborhood), alerts would only go to those affected.
- Tell us how you would like to receive alerts (text, email, voice call, etc). The system will contact you until you confirm receipt of a message. So, if you get a text and reply “yes”, you will not receive a call or an email.
- Individuals in same household should register separately. The system will not text multiple numbers under a single registration, rather it will text the first number and stop, once confirmed.
- All AT&T residential landlines are registered. Cell phone and VoIP numbers (i.e. Comcast, Vonage) are not, and must register separately.
- Commercial businesses must register separately.
- Monthly Test: AlertBenicia and the City Siren System (7 sirens) are tested the first Wednesday of each month at 11:00am.
- If you hear sirens at other times, visit Channel 27, ci.benicia.ca.us, or the City of Benicia Facebook page for instructions. The sirens do not automatically mean to shelter in place or evacuate. You may shelter in place until you are able to get instructions.
- Emails come from firstname.lastname@example.org. This is not spam.
- Voice calls come from 707.746.7247. This is a generic number and does not receive phone calls.
