North Lake Tahoe Recreation Updates
Snow in the forecast for Tuesday, with sunny skies returning Wednesday through Sunday. Highs are in the 40s with lows dipping to the 20s.
Resorts and Towns’ Update: As part of its $50 million renaissance, Squaw Valley welcomes new dining experiences, including the Rocker@Squaw in the Village at Squaw Valley offering XXX Hot Wings, Red Eye Burger with a fried egg, hot sauce and cheddar cheese, as well as the 5-pound G.N.A.R Burger to be shared with a group or taken on as an individual challenge.
The North Face Park and Pipe Open Series, a great spectator event, heads to Northstar California Thursday, February 9 through Sunday, February 12. The event features slopestyle and halfpipe competitions in which a worldwide roster of competitors vies to claim a purse prize worth more than $20,000.
Experience the swing and rhythm of the 1940s Friday, February 10, 7-9:30 p.m., with the North Tahoe High School Jazz Band and their performance titled “In The Mood” at Granlibakken Lodge in Tahoe City. Tickets are $20/person and include hearty appetizers. Attendees are encouraged to don their best 1940s garb.
Spiritual leader and inspirational teacher and author Noah Levine returns to Truckee for two events: “The Buddhist Path of Freedom: Breaking the Addiction to Our Minds” (free) is Friday, February 10, 7-9 p.m., at the Truckee High School Theater and “The Four Foundations of Mindfullness” Saturday, February 11, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Truckee Town Hall ($30/person).
In Incline Village, Sierra College presents “The End or the Beginning” Friday, February 10, 7 p.m., as part of their Experts and Insights Dean Lecture Series. The presentation will focus on various doomsday predictions about December 2012. This event is free, with complimentary coffee and cookies.
Just outside of Incline Village, Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe hosts their popular “Slide Back Retro Day” Saturday, February 11 when winter enthusiasts are encouraged to pull out their rear-entry boots, skinny skies and neon – breaking all of today’s ski and snowboard fashion laws.
On Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl Ski Resort hosts “Ski Lake A Girl,” ladies-only ski and board clinics, the weekend of February 11-12. Taught by the resort’s top female instructors, clinics include professional instruction, a free daily CORE pass, morning stretching, lunch, massage and/or chiropractic work, as well as wine tasting. The camp is $320/person, plus lift tickets.
Celebrate 30 years of North Lake Tahoe’s The Weekly newspaper at a special Birthday Bash Saturday, February 11, 5-8 p.m., at Gar Wood’s in Carnelian Bay with appetizers, no-host bar, prizes and goodies bag.
Six Peaks Grille at the Resort at Squaw Creek in Olympic Valley offers a Magnificent Blending Experience Saturday, February 11, 6 p.m., when the acclaimed restaurant joins with Franciscan Winery. Guests will create their own personal blend from classic Bordeaux varietals followed by a pairing of wine and food. Seating is limited. Tickets are $100/person.
Tahoe City-based Alpenglow Sports has teamed up with Alpine Meadows Ski Resorts to host its 5th Annual Alpine Touring and Telemark Demo Event Saturday, February 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This free event will showcase the latest and greatest in both telemark and alpine touring equipment provided by participating vendors, such as Black Diamond, Dynafit, G3 and SkiLogic.
Valentine’s Day is around the corner and Squaw Valley is celebrating with a Mountaintop Valentine’s Day Dinner Package (Tuesday, February 14), as well as an on-mountain Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt, Saturday, February 11. The best hunters will be rewarded with special coupons for discounts and prizes.
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association hosts a 2-mile Sweetheart Sunset Snowshoe Hike (with wine and cheese) Tuesday, February 14, 4-6 p.m., at the Tahoe Meadows Trailhead, just off the Mt. Rose Highway (Hwy. 431).
