Lecture Series - Stewards of Our Children’s Future: 2011…
On Tuesday evening, April 26, the Benicia Sustainability Commission, in collaboration with Solano Community College, will be presenting the second lecture-workshop, in the series of five, called "Stewards of Our Children's Future: 2011..." For those who attended the first kick-off lecture on the concept and practices of sustainability, you know how vital, informing, personal and even entertaining, Dr. Betsy Julian (SCC Dean of Math and Science Dept.) was in her characterizations of the challenge of retooling communities to become more sustainable, where social equity, economic and ecological benefit must be considered as part of any solution to reduce our carbon footprint.
If you missed the first lecture, I highly recommend that you take the time to view it on You Tube, where the video was uploaded by the commission's vice chair, Constance Beutel, who is filming the entire series.

We're fortunate to have Dr. Julian back to present the next topic, the science of climate change and global warming. She promises that the lecture will be more about science than the policy challenges, so this is a great opportunity to learn, in a comfortable local setting, from a geologist about how she understands "the facts" about global warming as they are interpreted with other research data that indicate a changing ecosystem responding to elevated CO2 levels in the atmosphere.
The lecture will be held at the Heritage Presbyterian Church, in the sanctuary, starting at 7 pm. Parking may be tight in the lot, (there's a popular AA meeting held in the social hall on Tuesday evenings) so find parking where you can or walk!
