"On A Clear Day" Exhibit Opens At Benicia Historical Museum

The Benicia Historical Museum will have an Opening Reception for the new exhibit “On A Clear Day” on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m.  The exhibit will feature aerial photos of Benicia from the 1940s through the 1990s.  The black and white birds-eye photos range in size from six feet in width down to 40 inches and include views of the Southampton subdivision as it was being built.  Smaller views are from the 1920s to the 1970s.  The clarity and details of the photos is such that visitors can identify their own houses, along with topographical landmarks, businesses, streets, bike trails, waterways and cars.  The large photos were donated to the Museum by Southampton Homes, Benicia Import Auto Services and Exxon Refinery.  Museum Curator Beverly Phelan assigned the exhibit to Museum Registrar Roberta Garrett who was assisted by Jim Garrett.   Roberta has lived in Benicia all of her life and her knowledge of the area contributed to the narrative that will further educate the visitor on Benicia’s history. Smaller photos and maps come from the museum collection.  Refreshments will be served.  Museum is located at 2024 Camel Rd. For more information call 745-5435.
