Gallery 621 presents "Life On Earth," sculpture by Lisa Reinertson, with painting by Lee Wilder Snider. LISA REINERTSON is known for both her life size figurative ceramic sculptures and her large-scale public sculptures cast in bronze. As an artist raised in a family of peace and civil rights activists, Reinertson has created artwork that conveys an underlying humanism and concern for the earth that can be seen both in her poetic ceramic figures with animals, to her more historic public commissions that express ideals of peace and social justice. In her public sculptures of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez she blends bas-relief into her three-dimensional sculptural forms creating an historic and powerfully moving narrative. Christina Strawbridge Support For Measure L

For the last 12 years the former City Library has been my home. The 3600 square foot building on G Street served as the Benicia Library from 1956 to 1993.  Before that  it was housed in the State Capitol building utilizing 600 sq. ft. with a book stock of 691 volumes.  The interior of the library building has changed dramatically from the days that I brought my two young sons to study, research papers and read.  The current kitchen is where we would return the books that were hopefully not too overdue and take out new ones on a weekly basis.  The original wood counter with a return slat is still there with ink pad stains remaining in one of the drawers.  The children's reading room is now my office and the back of the house, formerly the adult...

Wine Walk In Downtown Benicia

On Saturday, June 9th from 2:00pm-5:00pm, Wine Walk offers attendees a chance to taste a variety of regional and imported wines in Downtown Benicia.  Fifteen different wines will be poured inside participating downtown shops, providing an enjoyable afternoon to “sip, walk, and shop.” Attendees can stroll First Street with glass in hand, tasting different wines, from reds to whites to sparkling. Many participating business will also offer hors d'oeuvres to pair with the wine they are pouring. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. Ticket price includes one (1) complimentary Benicia Main Street wine glass per person. Participants must be age 21 and over.
