Benicia Holiday Open Studios Saturday & Sunday December 10th & 11th

Over 40 artists in Benicia's Arsenal will hold open studios on Saturday, December 10, and Sunday, December 11, from 10 to 5. The Current line up of Artists includes the following, who have studios in the Arsenal on both Jackson and Tyler Streets. Works available will include prints, paintings, sculpture and more. The Colorful Craft Of Stained Glass at Benicia Historical Museum

THE COLORFUL CRAFT OF STAINED GLASS features work by Benicia artist Stephen Schumm on exhibit through January 2012 in the Arts and Technology Case at the Benicia Historical Museum. The exhibit features the tools, plans and products of stained glass artist Stephen Schumm. Schumm, who occupies a studio in the Benicia Arsenal studio formerly used by stained glass artists George McKeever and then by Michael Starbow, works back and forth between the characteristic transparency of both the watercolor and stained glass mediums. The Arts and Technology exhibit focuses on the process of the skilled craftsman developing an idea from painting to finished product in glass. Showing now through January, 2012. Solano Youth Theatre takes a magic carpet ride with Aladdin!

Solano Youth Theatre’s youngest company members will soon present Aladdin.  Based upon the Tales of the Arabian Nights and adapted by Kathryn Shultz Miller, this production marks the first show produced under the auspices of Young Artist Conservatory of Music, and officially opens the Solano Youth Theatre 2011 – 2012 season. Director Dottie Bonneau, a veteran theatre teacher with 49 years of experience teaching kids, said in a recent press release, “I love the energy of the arts combining at YACM… the musicians are rehearsing in the building while we are holding Aladdin rehearsals…the drummers are right next door!  The musicians stop in and watch what we are doing, and I know that some of our actors are also taking music lessons. ...
