Artists From Around The Bay Participate In Plein Air Paint-off Event

The public is invited to watch 40 plein air painters in action and stroll downtown at a new event sponsored by Benicia’s plein air painters. Held August 27, painters from San Francisco, Oakland and other Bay Area cities are coming to Benicia to paint Benicia’s scenic beauty. Prize-winning paintings will be awarded cash prizes handed out by Mayor Elizabeth Patterson.

From Plein Air To Studio, Nikki Basch Davis’ New Painting Style

Benicia’s Nikki Basch Davis, who began creating art in town 27 years ago as a plein air painter, recently began a studio practice for a change of pace. Her new work is being shown at the Benicia Library art gallery in June and July 2016.

New Gallery Adds To Benicia’s Arsenal Of Art

The new HQ Gallery at the Arsenal, opening May 7 for Artist Open Studios weekend, is located at the entrance of the area known as an artist’s haven, where there are many live-work artist studios. The gallery will show the works of local painters and artists working in other mediums.

The store offers public events, in conjunction with the Benicia Library, and is bringing kids and adults together to meet likeminded superhero fans.

A 1932 handkerchief, with a decorative narrative on the border commemorating George Washington, rendered in cross-stitch with a phrase by Henry Lee (father of general Robert E. Lee), is housed in the archives of the Benicia Historical Museum.

The Benicia Historical Museum archives includes an interesting item from the “Bank of Happy Success” in the “State of Good Fortune,” a check for 365 happy and prosperous days is given from William Bergstrom to Aubrey Williams in 1910. It’s an appropriately timed gift for the coming year.
