Artists From Around The Bay Participate In Plein Air Paint-off Event

The public is invited to watch 40 plein air painters in action and stroll downtown at a new event sponsored by Benicia’s plein air painters. Held August 27, painters from San Francisco, Oakland and other Bay Area cities are coming to Benicia to paint Benicia’s scenic beauty. Prize-winning paintings will be awarded cash prizes handed out by Mayor Elizabeth Patterson.

August and early September bring big annual events drawing huge crowds to downtown Benicia; the annual Peddler’s Fair, an antiques and collectibles street fair that draws upwards of 20,000 each year, the annual Taste of First Street, where local restaurant provide nibbles paired with wine, and the Benicia Film Festival, where 38 short films are shown along with social events.

The End Of An Era As Smyers Glass Studio Closes

Smyers Glass Studio will be closing in September 2016, after 45 years in business. Nourot Glass Studios, sharing ownership of the building that houses both glass studios, will be moving to a new location. Lindsay Art Glass still has its glass blowing studio in its long-time location in downtown Benicia.
